If you’re experiencing issues with WordPress membership levels, redirects, or shortcodes, it may be because of a plugin or theme conflict. This troubleshooting guide will help you identify these conflicts on your integrated WordPress site.

Identifying Which WordPress Plugin is Causing a Conflict

Ontraport’s WordPress plugins work alongside many others. However, plugins for similar features or plugins that use similar code may cause a conflict. For example:

  1. Membership plugins that also enable login and page protection
  2. Redirect plugins
  3. Backup plugins (e.g., BackupBuddy)
  4. Plugins that minify or optimize CSS
  5. Caching plugins (Note: if the caching plugin has the ability to exclude your membership-protected pages in the cached data, then they can be used.)

Here’s how to identify which plugin is causing a conflict:

  • Before going through the steps for troubleshooting your plugins, confirm that your PilotPress and/or Ontrapages plugin is up to date.
  • Deactivate all of your plugins.
    1. In WordPress, go to the Plugins tab on the left side of your dashboard and click the check mark in the header row to select all active plugins.
    2. Select the action Deactivate from the “Bulk Actions” dropdown.
  • Activate the PilotPress plugin and the next most important plugin for your WordPress site.
  • Test for plugin conflicts.
    1. Log out of your WordPress site completely.
    2. Create and give WordPress membership access to a new test contact in your Ontraport account.
    3. Open a new incognito (private) window in your browser.
    4. Clear the cookies for your WordPress site in your incognito window.
    5. Go to the default WordPress login screen by navigating to your WordPress site’s URL and adding “/wp-login.php” to the end of the url (e.g., http://your-domain.com/wp-login.php).
    6. Log in with your test contact’s credentials and verify that your site is functioning as expected.
    7. If your test is successful, then you can log out and close your test window. Then log back in to your WordPress account as the admin and enable the next most important plugin. Repeat this process as necessary to locate the plugins causing conflicts with PilotPress.

Detecting Theme Conflicts

The theme used on your WordPress site can also potentially create conflicts with our plugins. To check for theme conflicts, follow these steps:

  • From your WordPress dashboard, go to Appearance → Themes.
  • Replace your current theme by activating a basic theme such as “Twenty Fifteen.”
  • Log in to your WordPress site to check to see if your site is functioning normally.
